MINI REVIEWS - Young Thor

GAME TITLE: Young Thor
SYSTEM: PSP / Playstation 3
GENRE: Platformer
PUBLISHER: Frima Studio

Frima Studio have taken to heart the concept of what makes a platformer really great. The running, the jumping and the laying of the smack down on a wide range of dastardly enemies, all mixed together with a smattering of boss battling. They're a studio that has taken care and attention to produce a game that both looks great and plays smoothly. Young Thor is a pretty standard platformer with RPG elements thrown in to add flavor. The story sees you in the role of the young god of thunder and travelling through the old Norse realms in order to lay the pain on an unknown villain that has stolen three 'Norns' (female spirits) who defend the World Tree.

MINI REVIEWS - Star Hammer Tactics

GAME TITLE: Star Hammer Tactics
SYSTEM: PSP
GENRE: Turn-based Tactics
PUBLISHER: Black Lab Games

When Star Hammer Tactics was being prepaired for release there was a lot of buzz surrounding it. It was going to be the first Tactical combat game on the Minis range, it was going to be the first release in a series of games set within the Star Hammer universe, and most of all the screenshots looked great. Launching with an initial price tag around that of a PSOne game on the Playstation Store, I was one of the people who eagerly picked it up on the day of its release. Had I waited and read a few of the reviews that sprang up a week of so later, or at least until the price drop that comes to all Minis after a while, perhaps I wouldn't have been quite to dissapointed. The following review is a considered deconstruction of this title, and can be considered a warning to the unsuspecting Minis player.

MINI REVIEWS - Monsters (Probably) Stole My Princess!

GAME TITLE: Monsters (Probably) Stole My Princess!
SYSTEM: PSP / Playstation 3
GENRE: Platformer
PUBLISHER: Mediatonic

Mediatonic is a group that knows their stuff. Their contributions to the Mini market haven't been large in number, but the sheer quality of each release shows that they understand both the system and their target audiance. With their first title they quickly show that they have a sense of humour that is deeply rooted in classic gaming and yet at the same time create quickly a distinctive feel all of their own. Monsters (Probably) Stole My Princess! is one of the finest games to grace the Minis scene since it began, and when the only complaint you can find is that a game is too short, you know that you're on to a winning formula.

MINI REVIEWS - Zenonia

GAME TITLE: Zenonia
SYSTEM: Playstation 3 / PSP
GENRE: Action RPG
PUBLISHER: Gamevil

Zenonia is one of a recent series of games to be ported to Sony's Mini range, and the results have been a mixed bag. In some cases they are high quality outings well worth the small price of a Mini, on others you just plain want your money back. Zenonia falls somewhere squarely in the middle. The first RPG to appear in the Minis listing since launch, Zenonia plays like a fusion of the Legend of Zelda with more recent internet MMORPGS. Taking on the role of a young man by the name of 'Regret' who was found as a baby on a battlefield between holy knights and evil demons, and adopted by the knight's greatest champion, you start the game cast out into town an orphen as events begin to unfold.
